Successful completion of the Shotgun Instructor Course will fulfill the practical requirements for the leader to apply for full instructor certification through the National Rifle Association. Although encouraged, NRA membership is not required to become an instructor. BSA policy requires the responsible leader in charge of Shotgun shooting activities hold a current NRA Instructor Certification.

The course will be conducted in three sessions. Students will be working in the classroom as well as on the Range. This course is intended to give the instructor candidate practical experience in safe Shotgun handling, instructing the basic skills of shooting, and conducting NRA Basic and Shotgun Merit Badge courses.
