Pinewood Derby Winners Announced

The Neosho District held their annual Neosho District Pinewood Derby recently at Fort Gibson High School. The event was sponsored by the Breakfast Optimist Club, who provided judges and ribbons.

A pinewood racer is a 1-inch by 2-inch by 7-inch pine block that has been shaped, sanded and painted by the Cub Scout with help from an adult. Four plastic wheels are attached with nails, and gravity powers the racer down a 32-foot track.

Cub Scouts competed in one of three categories; speed, design and craftsmanship. There were 48 cars entered in competition, representing 11 packs from Muskogee, Cherokee, Adair, Sequoyah and Wagoner counties. The winners were:

Design

  • First Place: Dean Welch, Pack 699, Hilldale.
  • Second Place: Chris Dennis, Pack 638, Fort Gibson.
  • Third Place: Edison Busher, Pack 752, Watts.
  • Fourth Place: Matthew Bright, Pack 734, Tahlequah.

Craftsmanship

  • First Place: Bryce Hammons, Pack 651, Warner.
  • Second Place: Kyle Ginson, Pack 699, Hilldale.
  • Third Place: Rudy Salas, Pack 730, Tahlequah.
  • Fourth Place: Ashton Kinsey, Pack 730, Tahlequah.

Speed

  • First Place: Bryce Thornton, Pack 642, Checotah.
  • Second Place: Conner Sission, Pack 642, Checotah.
  • Third Place: Shivam Patel, Pack 642, Checotah.
  • Fourth Place: Riley Ford, Pack 734, Tahlequah.
