The Northeastern Oklahoma Wood Turners Association has an active program of learning and enhancing skills in wood turning for youth and in particular scouts. In the past they have had scouts who took lessons from their members, made pens, bowls and other artifacts and some have gone on to become Eagle Scouts. They are starting a program for about 12 scouts in the fall. Their facility is located at 10117 E. 50th St Tulsa. They have 9 full sized lathes and a few smaller ones. They have tools and accessories necessary to teach several people at once. They have a number of members who can teach and emphasize safety. The students must pass a safety test before they can turn on the lathe–the tools are sharp and the wood can be turning up to 3000rpm.
