In 1931, the Silver Beaver Award was created to recognize distinguished service to youth in the area of a local council. Since its creation in 1931, the Silver Beaver is the highest award that can be given for volunteer service in a local council.

It is given by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America, upon the recommendation of the local council, to those men and women who have distinguished themselves by service to youth over an extended period of time.

Darton is a member of the Executive Board and is active in offering opportunities for Scouts and their families to enjoy outdoor experience as well as generously supporting the youth programs of the Indian Nations Council.
