What is Trail to Troop Camp?
Trail to Troop is a special camp experience designed for rising Arrow of Light Scouts (incoming 5th graders) who are preparing to transition into Scouts BSA.
​
During this focused adventure, Scouts experience troop-style camping, learn practical outdoor skills, and build the confidence they need before joining a troop.
​
It’s not just another Cub camp — it’s a launch point for the next stage of Scouting.

Does my child need camping experience?
No experience is required.

Trail to Troop is designed for Scouts with all levels of camping experience.
​
Whether this is your child’s first camp or they already love the outdoors, the program is built to help them learn, grow, and succeed.

Is this an overnight camp?
Yes.
​
Scouts stay at Camp Hale Scout Reservation from Sunday afternoon through Wednesday morning.
They sleep in camp with their group under the supervision of trained adult leaders and camp staff.
​
Who supervises the Scouts?
Safety and supervision are top priorities.
​
The camp is staffed by:

experienced program directors

certified instructors for activities like aquatics and ranges

All staff follow Scouting America youth protection policies and safety standards.

Can parents attend?
Yes. Parents may attend as a parent/Scout group.
Trail to Troop is designed to help Scouts develop independence, so we encourage Packs to send youth to this camp as a den with the appropriate leadership. Registered leaders and trained adult volunteers are always present to supervise and support the Scouts.

Will my child know anyone?
Many Scouts attend with friends from their pack or den, but they will also meet new friends from across the council.
Activities are organized so Scouts quickly form teams and build friendships. One of the best parts of camp is the connections Scouts make with others preparing for troop life.

What if my Scout gets homesick?
Homesickness is normal for first-time campers.
