What comes after Cub Scouts? Adventure.

 

Journey to Scouting is a one-of-a-kind weekend where Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts can experience Scouts BSA firsthand. Explore three immersive worlds, try exciting activities, learn from Scouts, meet troops from across Indian Nations Council, and discover what your next Scouting adventure could look like.

Explore Three Worlds

 

Troops will camp by district, turning Babbitt Cub World into three distinctive themed areas. Participants are encouraged to explore all three worlds - not just the world of their host troop or district.

​

•IRONHOLD - Redbud District: legends, empires, traditional skills, heritage, craftsmanship, and challenges inspired by the past.

•THE CROSSING - Will Rogers District: discovery, expedition, outdoor skills, search and rescue, navigation, survival, and adventure.

•NOVA - Scissortail District: space, science, communications, robotics, rockets, drones, technology, and the future.

 

Saturday Program Highlights

 

Saturday is designed as a festival of Scouting - participants can move among activities, meet different troops, and build their own Journey.

Adventure Pin Midway: Scouts BSA youth will teach hands-on Adventure Pin activities to Webelos and AOL Scouts. The emphasis is on short, active experiences that let younger Scouts interact directly with troop youth.

 

Range & Target Activities: BB guns, archery, air rifle, tomahawk throwing, and cornhole in the Babbitt Cub World area. Age and program restrictions will apply.

 

Climbing: A mobile climbing wall focused especially on Webelos and AOL Scouts. Additional climbing attractions may be added as availability is confirmed.

 

Three Worlds Program: Tulsa Amateur Radio Club, Tulsa Robotics, search-and-rescue activities, and other specialty program partners will help bring the three worlds to life. Additional activities such as cultural programming, the Marine Corps League Mobile Museum, model rockets, and drones may be added as confirmed.

 

Journey Games: Fast-moving team challenges for all ages, with several designed specifically to pair Scouts BSA youth with AOLs and Webelos.

 

Scouts BSA Advancement: Planned opportunities include the 5-mile hike, orienteering rank requirements, backpack cooking, Wilderness Survival merit badge programming, and selected Archery/Shotgun merit badge partial completion.

 

Saturday Night District Campfires: Each of the three districts will hold its own campfire, planned and led by District Youth Staff. Troops and AOL Scouts are encouraged to perform skits - including combined troop/AOL skits.

 

Brownsea Island Breakfast: Sunday morning youth leadership breakfast for troop youth leaders, continuing a Council tradition of Scouts sharing ideas and lessons across units.

Every Webelos and AOL Scout receives a Journey Cord and begins collecting pony beads by exploring the event. The cord becomes a wearable, keepable trophy that tells the story of what they experienced.

•Complete a Scout Spirit/teamwork challenge

Games, Spirit & Recognition

 

Journey to Scouting is about participation, welcome, and Scout spirit - not simply winning competitions. Recognition will reward troops that create the best experience for younger Scouts.

 

•The Journey Cup - overall participation, spirit, program engagement, and experience.

•The Pathfinder Award - best Webelos/AOL engagement and youth-led welcome.

•The Gateway Award - best themed campsite and troop identity.

•The Trailblazer Award - exceptional effort to host and connect with prospective Scouts.

•The Scout Spirit Award - staff-selected recognition for friendliness, helpfulness, leadership, and inclusion.

•The AOL Choice Award - AOL Scouts vote for the troop that made them most excited about joining Scouts BSA.

Event T-shirts will be offered separately from registration. Final pricing, ordering deadline, and shirt design will be posted when available.

 

All registered youth participants will receive a three-patch Journey to Scouting set - one patch representing each of the three worlds.

Scouts BSA Troops: Show Them What Scouting Can Be

 

This is not just another weekend campout. It is your troop's opportunity to show Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts what makes your troop special - your youth leadership, traditions, program, patrol culture, friendships, and spirit.

 

Participating troops will be asked to:

 

•Camp in their assigned district World and bring the theme to life.

•Host AOL Scouts and families/approved adults as applicable.

•Teach one or more Adventure Pin activities at the Saturday morning Midway.

•Encourage youth to lead and personally welcome visiting Webelos/AOL Scouts.

•Participate in the Journey Games and District campfire.

•Prepare a skit or song; combined troop/AOL performances are strongly encouraged.

•Submit host capacity and Adventure Pin selections before the event.
